Does Earth Exist Within the Domain of a Spacefaring Empire?
How a childhood cartoon made me ask a big question.
As a teenager, I watched Dragon Ball Z after school on Cartoon Network’s Toonami. I still remember coming home on September 11th, 2001, to find not the usual lineup, but a screen with flowers and a condolence message from the network. It shocked me because my teachers had withheld the news from us at school, so none of us even knew what had happened until we got home.
Recently, nostalgia hit, and I signed up for Crunchyroll to watch the original Dragon Ball, which I’d never seen before. To my surprise, it was much dirtier than I expected, full of explicit humor not present in Dragon Ball Z.
With only a week-long free trial, I knew I wouldn’t have time to binge the entire saga — from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z and finally Dragon Ball Super. Curious about the epilogue to the series I loved as a teen, I skipped ahead to Dragon Ball Super. Watching it reminded me of Frieza — not just as a villain but as the ruler of a sprawling space empire.
This got me thinking: what if Earth exists within the domain of a similar spacefaring empire? Could the UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena) being discussed in Congress be part of this unseen galactic presence? Let’s explore the possibilities.
1. A Non-Interference Directive
If Earth exists within the domain of an advanced space empire, they may operate under a policy of non-interference. Much like the Prime Directive from Star Trek, they might avoid meddling in the development of less advanced civilizations like ours. This approach would allow humanity to evolve naturally, free from external influence.
In this context, UAPs could be surveillance devices or scouts, monitoring us while remaining unseen. Their behavior — appearing suddenly, defying physics, and vanishing without a trace — might reflect an effort to observe without intervening.
2. Advanced Technology Conceals Them
A civilization capable of ruling a galactic empire would likely possess technology so advanced that it appears magical to us. They might use cloaking devices, operate in higher dimensions, or manipulate their presence in ways that escape human detection.
This idea aligns with descriptions of UAPs, which often seem to defy the laws of physics. If these objects are part of an empire, they might represent a fraction of its capabilities — perhaps automated probes or vessels designed for stealth.
3. Earth as a Protected Nature Reserve
Another possibility is that Earth is viewed as a nature reserve. Advanced beings might see our planet as a unique ecosystem worthy of preservation. Much like humanity protects wildlife sanctuaries, they could be ensuring that Earth remains untouched by outside interference.
In this scenario, UAPs might serve as park rangers, keeping tabs on our planet to ensure no harm comes to its biodiversity or natural balance. Their presence could be part of a broader strategy to maintain the health of their empire’s resources.
4. We’re Just Not That Important
From another perspective, Earth might be a tiny, insignificant part of a vast empire. To a civilization capable of spanning galaxies, our planet could be little more than a remote outpost or a speck on their map.
UAPs, in this case, might be routine patrols or exploratory missions, passing by out of obligation rather than interest. We might simply be too small or undeveloped to warrant their attention.
5. An Ancient Connection
What if Earth was once part of this empire but has since been forgotten? Ancient myths and legends about gods or celestial beings could be remnants of a time when we were more closely connected. Alternatively, Earth might lie on the frontier of their territory, left to develop on its own.
UAPs might then represent occasional visits from travelers or automated systems left behind to monitor the fringes of their domain. These sightings could be relics of a forgotten connection to the broader galactic network.
6. The Simulation Hypothesis
Finally, what if reality as we know it is a simulation? In this case, the “empire” controlling Earth might not be a physical entity but the operators of the simulation itself. UAPs could be glitches in the system or deliberate tests, introduced to observe our reactions.
This perspective shifts the question from whether Earth is part of a galactic empire to whether we are even in a “real” universe. If the simulation hypothesis holds true, the UAPs might be evidence of something far stranger than we can imagine.
A Bigger Picture to Consider
Watching Dragon Ball Super and reflecting on Frieza’s sprawling empire sparked an intriguing question: could Earth exist within the domain of a similar galactic presence? From non-interference policies to ancient connections, the possibilities are endless and humbling.
As humanity continues to explore space and grapple with the mysteries of UAPs, we might one day find answers — or uncover entirely new questions. Until then, imagining that Earth might be part of a greater cosmic story is a reminder of how much there is still to discover.
