Music to help you unwind, write, clean, or relax in the shower. From the gamer to the old soul in you — there is gold in these hills.

When it comes to music, I don’t listen to a lot of commercial pop music. I used to be really into the oldies and indie music throughout college, but as I grow older, I want peace and ambiance. Occasionally, I will listen to music in the car, but I mainly listen to podcasts or audiobooks while driving.

Music has become a form of focus, meditation, and therapy for me in my thirties. The following are my top five picks for the most creative, relaxing, and tone-setting YouTube livestream music channels.

#1 — NEMO’S DREAMSCAPES

Nemo’s Dreamscapes also features some of the most astonishing art that sets the mood!

Nemo’s Dreamscapes is my go-to YouTube channel when I want to relax, clean, or shower. I always feel so classy as I step out of the shower in front of the steam-soaked mirror and begin to do all my manly moisturizing, brushing my teeth, and so forth.

This channel features early to mid-20th-century Americana music put to atmospheric ASMR sounds such as rain, train rides, party chatter, and much more! It features multiple simultaneous live streams and videos. If you’re a gamer and a fan of the Fallout franchise, this channel will be right up your alley.

There are also seasonal videos and livestreams for things like Halloween and Christmas, which make for excellent party background music, whether just mingling or dinner music if you and your household are at a table and eating. I know that’s a rarity these days. Check out Nemo’s Dreamscapes here, and if you like what Nemo does, send them a donation!

#2 — TOKYOTONES

TokyoTones features walking tours of Japan at night to its excellent lo-fi sound.

TokyoTones is all about the atmosphere of Japanese nightlife. I’ve never been to Japan, but I’ve been to Japan, man. Do you know what I mean? Who doesn’t love the idea of a clean Japanese city street illuminated by neon as you stand in front of a vending machine with alien candy, beers in oddly satisfying shaped cans, and undergarments? If you don’t, you’re insane. It’s the birthplace of karaoke, which means “silent orchestra,” that came to be when the band didn’t show up one time long ago at some event in Japan.

Yes, Japan is the land of declining birthrates and a vital organ of calm: sumo-wrestlers, cute anime girls, sushi, and the smell of the sea. Tokyo Tones offers a variety of low-fi/jazz/fusion/electronic music that is perfect for anything and set to amazing streetwalks throughout Japan that make for stunning visuals to compliment the theme perfectly.

Whether you are smoking a blunt after your shift at Waffle House or writing your thesis for your history doctorate, Tokyo Tones is the all-around zen central. If I had a dog grooming business, this channel would be 24/7. Check out Tokyo Tones here and show them love if you have the means!

#3 — CLASSICAL MASTERPIECES

Finally, learn who wrote that song you’ve always heard by enjoying Classical Masterpieces.

Classical Masterpieces is just what it sounds like. The best classical music that, although it might sound intimidating to someone who doesn’t particularly “know” classical music, is surprisingly familiar to most people who have made it to adulthood without being run over by a bus. It is a great way to enjoy classical music and learn who the composers were, as each live stream and video is usually focused around a specific composer. Check out Classical Masterpieces here.

#4 — LUCAS KING

It’s the perfect channel for fiction writers.

Lucas King is a UK-based pianist and composer with a live stream of 24/7 original “dark” piano music perfect for writing fiction. I’ve been using his channel while writing my new short story, “Charlie Horse,” and it was ideal. My story is a high fantasy story, but the medieval channels weren’t setting the mood for me; Lucas King hit the nail on the head. His compositions are immersive and take you to a world of dark and magic. Check out Lucas King here and show support if you enjoy his work!

#5 — GLITCHXCITY

Videogame nostalgia comes to life at GlitchxCity with a lo-fi twist.

GlitchxCity is a must-subscribe for any videogame lovers out there. This channel features lo-fi videogame covers and remixes that are, like all these channels listed, perfect for relaxing and focusing. Even if you’re not a gamer, you will surely enjoy this. Featuring mostly music from JRPGs, this channel is a spirit sister to TokyoTones. It features stimulating original artwork, too. This channel is indeed an entire vibe. Check out GlitchxCity here and show your support!

If you like any of these channels, don’t forget to hit that subscribe button and engage with others in the chats. These aren’t just music channels but a community on the fly if you feel lonely. Send positivity to the other randos in the world out there enjoying the music at the same time as you!
